About Dr Terence Chua

BScMed (Hons) MBBS PhD MRCS (Ed) FRACS

Dr Terence Chua grew up in Singapore. His humble upbringing instilled in him the importance of a strong work ethic from a young age. He migrated to Sydney, Australia to attend medical school, following which, he pursued his career in Australia as a doctor. He is married to a lovely wife, Mandy, who together are parents to two beautiful girls. He is thankful for life, the goodness of grace and the blessings from God.

Academic Qualifications

Dr Terence Chua is a Specialist Consultant General Surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at the School of Medicine, Griffith University, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. A/Professor Chua studied medicine and surgery at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) graduating with a double degree in Bachelor of Science in Medicine (BScMed) with 1st Class Honours, Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS). He was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) for his research into colorectal cancer surgery with his academic excellence being recognized by honour on the Dean’s List.

Offering General & Colorectal Surgical Expertise across Brisbane & the Gold Coast

A/Professor Terence Chua has over the years developed both technical and non-technical attributes of an expert general & colorectal surgeon.

He developed his technical expertise early in medical school by preceptorship under the tutelage of Professor David Morris, a renowned cancer surgeon. During this time, he gained an enormous understanding and developed skills in hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal cancer surgery. His general surgical training was undertaken at two large tertiary hospitals; St George Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia. During this time, he trained under the mentorship of several pre-eminent surgeons including Professor Jas Samra and Professor Stan Sidhu. This culminated in the attainment of specialist qualification with Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). He also holds Membership from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, United Kingdom (MRCS Ed). He worked as Senior Registrar in Surgery at the Royal North Shore Hospital University of Sydney Endocrine Surgical Unit and Colorectal Surgical Unit in Sydney, Australia. 

A/Professor Chua possesses surgical traits that are essential non-technical qualities. They include surgical judgment, professionalism, conscientiousness and perseverance, which he believes translates to improved care that benefit his patients.
